90 new homes approved on West Midlands Green Belt despite 70 objections
South Staffordshire District Council approved Bloor Homes' proposal for 90 properties on land north of Bridgnorth Road in Wombourne, despite more than 70 objections from residents, community leaders and MP Mike Wood. Supporters said the site qualifies as Grey Belt, would help meet the council's five-year housing supply, include 50% affordable homes, preserve substantial green infrastructure and provide funding for sports facilities and bus stops. Opponents argued that the land is important Green Belt, would contribute to urban sprawl between Wombourne and Himley, has poor public transport and unsafe access, and is unnecessary because the emerging Local Plan already meets local housing needs. The committee approved the application after chair Bob Cope cast the deciding vote.
