Victoria Vaults in York listed as an asset of community value
City of York Council approved a fresh nomination to list the Victoria Vaults on Nunnery Lane as an Asset of Community Value. The former music venue, which closed in December 2024, had previously lost that status after an earlier application was challenged. CAMRA argued that the building had significant cultural and community value, while representatives for the owners questioned the need for relisting and said the premises had been marketed without receiving leasehold offers. Supporters cited interest from multiple potential operators and possible community ownership arrangements. The council concluded that there was a realistic prospect of community use within the next five years, meaning the property cannot be sold without giving the community an opportunity to bid.
