A major partial solar eclipse will be visible across the UK on Wednesday, with more than 90% of the Sun covered in many areas and up to 96% coverage in parts of Devon and Cornwall. The eclipse is expected to peak at around 7pm, with timing varying by location, and a postcode tool is provided to identify local viewing times. Clear skies are forecast for much of England and Wales, while cloud may affect Scotland, Northern Ireland and parts of northern England. Experts warn that ordinary sunglasses are unsafe and recommend certified eclipse glasses, a solar telescope or projection methods such as using a colander. The next UK eclipse of comparable magnitude is not expected until 2081.
