Solar eclipse eye damage and what to do if you looked without eye protection
Looking directly at a solar eclipse without certified eye protection can damage the macula and cause solar retinopathy, potentially leading to blurred or distorted vision, dark spots, colour-vision changes, light sensitivity or permanent central vision loss. Symptoms may be delayed for hours or days because the retina has no pain receptors. Anyone experiencing visual changes or feeling that something is wrong should seek advice from an optometrist promptly. There is no specific treatment, although many cases heal on their own; the risk of lasting damage depends on the duration of exposure.
