UK households with driveways urged to move cars before Tuesday
The Met Office forecasts temperatures approaching 30°C on Tuesday and rising to as high as 36°C in parts of England by Thursday. Motoring specialists advise drivers to move cars parked in direct sunlight to shaded areas because interiors can exceed 40°C within half an hour at outdoor temperatures of 25°C. Electric-vehicle owners are also urged to avoid direct heat because battery thermal-management systems can consume additional energy, while reflective windscreen covers, ventilating the cabin and using air conditioning can help reduce temperatures.
