Reform UK London Assembly Member Alex Wilson has urged Mayor Sadiq Khan to cancel the Silvertown Tunnel Cycle Shuttle, arguing that its £2 million annual cost and reported operating expense of up to £5,000 a day are unjustified by passenger numbers. TfL says the free service carries around 100–130 cyclists on a typical weekday, provides the only safe cycling connection through the tunnel, and has usage comparable to the Woolwich Ferry. The Department for Transport requires TfL to operate the service until 2028, while officials are considering allowing pedestrians to use it.
