Nuclear power reactor forced to shut down due to extreme 28C heat
A reactor at the Golfech nuclear power plant in southwest France was shut down after rising temperatures in the River Garonne approached regulatory limits during an intense heatwave. EDF halted operations as the river neared 28C, the maximum allowed after plant discharges, while other reactors had also been suspended during a previous heatwave. France issued red heatwave alerts across several departments as climate monitors reported record June temperatures in western Europe, with experts warning of increasingly severe and prolonged heatwaves in a warming climate.
