Cars destroyed as massive fire tears through site used for Gatwick Airport parking
A major fire at Caldyne Business Park in Rowfant, near Gatwick Airport, destroyed several vehicles, including cars belonging to holiday parking services, as well as a workshop, electric vehicles, heavy goods vehicles and cylinders. Firefighters battled the blaze from the evening of August 22 and continued damping down hotspots on August 24. More than 2,000 properties temporarily lost power, while nearby roads were closed and vulnerable residents received assistance. A 67-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of arson and released on bail. No casualties were reported, and West Sussex Fire & Rescue Service and Sussex Police are conducting a joint investigation.
