Police name nine-year-old girl who died in Scotland as family pays tribute
Nine-year-old Minnie Merriman died after being found seriously injured at Elliot Industrial Estate in Arbroath in the early hours of 3 August 2026. A 35-year-old man known to her has been arrested and charged in connection with her death and is due to appear at Forfar Sheriff Court. Police Scotland said no one else is being sought, while specialist officers are supporting Minnie’s family, who were camping in the area and described her as an incredible, beautiful and brave child. West Yorkshire Police is assisting with the investigation.

Cyclist, 66, dies after Wakefield crash as woman released under investigation
A 66-year-old cyclist from Wakefield died in hospital after a collision with a grey Omoda 5 SUV on the A636 Denby Dale Road. The 48-year-old driver was interviewed under caution and released under investigation. West Yorkshire Police’s Major Collision Enquiry Team is seeking witnesses and any dashcam, CCTV or mobile phone footage related to the incident.
