The 1935 facility, one of only two inland open-air brine pools in the country, is drawing visitors from across the North West, Midlands and North Wales. The UK Health Security Agency has issued amber and yellow heat-health alerts as temperatures are expected to exceed 30C in parts of England and Wales. Demand for outdoor swimming continues to rise, though the pool remains a seasonal operation despite requests to open year-round.

The centre reports growing enthusiasm for outdoor swimming linked to wellbeing benefits, though it cannot operate year‑round. Despite its long history, some local residents remain unaware of the pool’s size and features.

A former hairdresser from Stoke-on-Trent, Allie Underhill, now runs a dog grooming salon from her converted garage, citing her love of dogs and similarities between hairdressing and grooming skills. She handles several canine clients a day, noting both challenges and rewards, including adapting styles to different coat types. She has also partnered with a local dog rescue charity to groom animals to support their adoption.

A Grade II-listed building in Hanley has reopened as a temporary exhibition space after nearly 20 years closed, marking the first stage of broader redevelopment plans. Re-Form Heritage is collaborating with the property’s owner on future uses while currently hosting exhibitions, starting with artwork by Pinc College students. The initiative aims to reintroduce the public to the building and support local creative education, with Pinc College set to move into nearby Bethesda Chapel later in the year.
