Eddie Howe’s departure from Newcastle United followed weeks of private consideration and a request for a sabbatical during the summer. Although he had initially committed to the 2026/27 season, Howe reportedly changed his mind after concluding that the demands of the role had taken their toll and that he could not take the club further. Newcastle’s board and senior executives had anticipated the decision, describing the split as amicable rather than the result of a major dispute over transfers, players or club politics. Matthias Jaissle, currently Al Ahli’s manager, is in advanced talks to replace him, with Graeme Jones a possible interim option and Jason Tindall also expected to leave.
