Major improvement scheme starts on Gregory Boulevard
A £1.3m scheme to improve walking and cycling routes along Gregory Boulevard in Nottingham is due to begin, funded by the government and East Midlands Combined County Authority. The project will add 850 metres of cycle path, resurface roads and pavements, upgrade crossings, install a signal-controlled crossing, and introduce planting for drainage and wildlife habitat. Construction is expected to last about 13 months, with traffic controls and temporary closures in place, while being scheduled around the 2027 Goose Fair. A council consultation found 69% support for the proposals, which officials say will make local journeys safer and reduce reliance on cars.

Ex-firefighter calls for open water safety warning on social media
A retired Nottinghamshire firefighter has launched a petition urging social media platforms to label open‑water swimming videos as dangerous under online safety rules. Simon Carr argues such content can influence young people and contribute to preventable drownings. The campaign follows several water‑related deaths across the UK. The government said it is preparing a new national drowning prevention strategy, while the RNLI stressed that social media warnings should form part of a broader safety and education effort. The petition closes in late December.
