Teenager drops social media addiction lawsuit against Meta
A Florida teenager who accused Meta of fostering social media addiction has dropped his lawsuit after recently settling similar claims against TikTok, Snapchat and YouTube. His case was set to go to trial in Los Angeles, where Meta and YouTube previously lost a related case involving mental health harms. The teenager’s lawyers said he sought accountability but opted out of a prolonged jury trial to focus on recovery, while Meta said he received no payment and called the claims baseless. The decision comes amid hundreds of similar cases in California and thousands nationwide, including recent rulings and settlements involving school districts and a New Mexico court.
