Dad in tears as he's charged with manslaughter over Wakefield fatal German Shepherd dog attack death
Lee Ellis, 55, of Calder Grove in Wakefield, has been charged with manslaughter and with being in charge of a dangerously out-of-control dog causing injury resulting in death, after James Judge died following an alleged dog attack on a footpath. Ellis became distressed while appearing at Bradford Magistrates' Court and was granted bail. A dog has been seized, police have interviewed witnesses who assisted Mr Judge, and Ellis is due to appear at Leeds Crown Court on September 16.

Children organise heartbreaking vigil after classmate drowns off East Yorkshire coast
Hundreds of children gathered in Hull for a vigil honoring a 13-year-old boy who died after getting into difficulty while swimming off Hornsea on August 4. His body was found the following morning. Friends from Sirius Academy West released balloons, placed a teddy bear tribute at the school and walked into the road to pay their respects. Teachers, parents and Humberside Police expressed grief and asked that the family’s privacy be respected.

'Forever 11' Mackenzie Swift drowned in River Don heatwave as family backs safety campaign
An 11-year-old boy, Mackenzie Swift, drowned in the River Don during a May heatwave after entering the water despite being unable to swim. His family, grieving at his funeral in Mexborough, urged young people to stay out of open water and support a campaign to prevent further drownings amid rising heatwave deaths. Mourners paid tribute to his character and interests, and a procession accompanied his funeral. An inquest into his death is scheduled for February next year.
