Wildfires in Llandovery Force People from Their Homes
Wildfires across Wales forced the evacuation of dozens of homes near Llandovery, with roads closed and a major incident declared in Carmarthenshire. An emergency alert warned people in England and Wales of a very high national wildfire risk and urged them to avoid barbecues, firepits, garden incinerators and fireworks. South Wales Fire and Rescue Service requested military support, which the Ministry of Defence approved for logistical assistance, evacuations and wider emergency response. Residents and businesses reported fear, property risks and financial losses, while local communities provided accommodation, food and support. Fires also affected Ferndale and Porth, where challenging terrain, heat and shifting winds hampered operations; four 14-year-old boys were arrested on suspicion of arson over a deliberate fire near Porth.

Llanelli's 'biblical' mystery fly infestation plaguing community
Residents and business owners in Llanelli report severe fly infestations preventing them from cooking, opening windows, or maintaining normal operations, with some venues using large numbers of traps and extra staff to control the problem. Many believe a nearby metal recycling plant may be responsible, though Natural Resources Wales says current evidence does not indicate this. Carmarthenshire Council and NRW are investigating, but locals express frustration at what they see as insufficient action as the issue recurs during hot weather despite previous complaints.
