Wembley stabbing victim pictured for first time as boy, 15, charged with murder
Seventeen-year-old David Wynter died after being stabbed at Brent Civic Centre in Wembley on 25 August. A 15-year-old boy was arrested, charged with murder on 27 August, and appeared at Willesden Magistrates’ Court; he is due to appear at the Old Bailey. Police say there is no wider risk to the community and are appealing for information.
Mitcham fire live as smoke seen for miles in second fire in area this week
A major fire near Carshalton Road in Mitcham affected a tyre centre, workshop, scaffolding yard, part of a house and surrounding scrubland. Around 20 fire engines and 125 firefighters responded, with the London Fire Brigade advising residents to keep windows and doors closed and avoid the area. The blaze was brought under control shortly after 8:30 p.m., though hotspots remained and firefighting continued overnight. Road closures and the closure of the railway between Mitcham Junction and Sutton caused significant Southern and Thameslink disruption. The cause was under investigation, and no injuries were reported.
