Luís Godinho was born on March 7, 1983, in Angra do Heroísmo. He graduated in Environmental Engineering and Management from the University of the Azores and worked in the Regional Public Administration before dedicating himself fully to professional photography in 2017. His passion for photography dates back to childhood, influenced by family photo albums and the travels he undertook, where he became deeply interested in people, cultures, and stories. Specializing in photojournalism and documentary photography, Luís Godinho became known for his attentive and sensitive perspective, capable of capturing the soul of the situations he photographs. His work has received national and international recognition through prestigious publications such as National Geographic, Leica Fotografie International, LensCulture, 1x, as well as Portuguese publications including Visão, Público, and Volta ao Mundo. In 2017, he won the National Award for Portugal at the Sony World Photography Awards with the photograph “Janela”, taken in Senegal. He has won three Gold Cameras (2023, 2024, and 2026), four Silver awards (2019, 2021, 2022, and 2025), and one Bronze award (2020) at the European Photographer of the Year Awards, organized by the Federation of European Photographers in the reportage/ photojournalism category. In 2024, he was also one of the winners of the prestigious PX3 Prix de la Photographie Paris in the “State of the World” category, with a project created in Indonesia focusing on environmental impact. The work was exhibited in a gallery in Paris. Luís Godinho is the author of several photography books, including “Luís Godinho” (2014), “A Mudança” (2020), “Angra Agora” (2021), “Angra da Humanidade” (2023), and more recently “Mais Vida” (2024). He has participated in numerous solo and group exhibitions both in Portugal and internationally, presenting works that explore themes such as human rights, environmental impact, identity, and social transformation.
