New £52 annual charge for UK drivers — from July 1
A rise in Ofgem’s energy price cap has increased home charging costs for UK electric vehicle owners, with some models seeing annual increases of up to £52. The adjustment, in effect from July through September, raises the electricity rate to 26.11p/kWh. Experts note that while EVs remain cheaper to run than petrol or diesel cars, motorists face higher costs for regular charging and household energy bills. Analysts advise drivers to seek cheaper tariffs, use workplace charging where possible, and take advantage of off‑peak deals to reduce expenses.
