Councillors in Huddersfield have launched a petition seeking further safety measures at the crossroads of Cobcroft Road and Percy Street in Birkby, where residents report regular collisions. Councillor Toby Cooper said at least three severe crashes had occurred since May and warned that the location near a school, community centres and a GP practice could eventually cause a fatality. Kirklees Council said it would investigate the site, assess existing measures and consider the petition under its procedures. A newly installed Give Way sign was described as only an initial step, with the petition due to be presented once council cabinet meetings resume in September.

Residents in Batley say Wilton Park has deteriorated and is no longer deserving of its Green Flag award, citing litter, rats, overgrown areas and a recently burned memorial bench. Kirklees Council says it takes pride in its parks but is maintaining them with reduced budgets and resources, while attributing some grass overgrowth to warm weather and promising further upkeep. The council confirmed that debris from the burned bench had been removed.
