Brussels airport to close temporarily with flights suspended
Brussels South Charleroi Airport in Belgium will close from August 15 to October 31, 2028, for an €50 million redevelopment project. The 11-week closure is required because the single runway will be completely reconstructed alongside upgrades to terminal areas, aircraft stands, drainage, lighting and taxiway markings. More than two million passengers could be affected, with Ryanair facing the greatest disruption because it operates over 80% of the airport’s flights; Wizz Air and several other carriers will also be impacted. The airport is expected to reopen on November 1, 2028, while passengers may use Brussels Airport, Lille Airport or Luxembourg Airport as alternatives.
