Claire Sweeney is leaving Coronation Street after playing Cassie Plummer since 2023 to take the role of Miss Hannigan in the UK and Ireland tour of Annie. She said filming her final scenes, including farewells to Hope and Ruby, made her and the children cry. Sweeney described Coronation Street as a major career turning point, while the show said Cassie would remain in Weatherfield until the summer and receive a major exit storyline. Former cast member Charlotte Jordan also discussed a possible return to the soap, saying she is currently focused on exploring new roles, including Clary Coombs in the BBC drama The Hairdresser Mysteries.
