UK nail salons are prohibited from purchasing or selling new gel nail products containing trimethylbenzoyl diphenylphosphine oxide (TPO), a chemical used to cure products under UV or LED light. Existing stock may be used until February 14, 2027. The ban follows government findings of sufficient scientific evidence of a potential risk to human health, particularly reproductive health, although the Cosmetic, Toiletry and Perfumery Association argues that exposure from nail products is far below levels associated with harm. Manufacturers have begun reformulating products without TPO, and suspected illegal cosmetics can be reported to Trading Standards through the Citizens Advice Consumer Helpline.

Denise Welch has confirmed that she is leaving ITV’s Loose Women after more than 25 years on and off the programme, including a seven-year absence before returning in 2018. She is stepping away to focus on acting opportunities, with several recent and forthcoming projects including Forever Home, Stepping Up and Benidorm Is Murder. Welch thanked viewers and colleagues, while the show praised her contribution and wished her well. She also rejected claims that Loose Women has a toxic backstage environment, describing disagreements as limited to on-air debates and saying she had never experienced serious conflict there.
