Cheshire Sighthound Rescue is seeking £6,000 to build a dedicated summer house and secure garden for three dogs—Roma, her daughter Esi, and Aseel—who cannot live together in a conventional home. The appeal follows Roma’s escape from a foster placement and her return to the rescue centre after four days, leading staff to conclude that she wanted to remain with the other dogs.

Former Halton councillor and teacher Geoff Logan won the adult poetry category of the Cheshire Prize for Literature for “We Feel in the Same Language.” Inspired by Syrian siblings he taught, the poem emphasizes shared emotions, kindness and unity across language barriers. Logan said it reflects his opposition to Reform UK’s immigration narrative and his belief that displaced people should be welcomed rather than judged. He hopes the poem will challenge oppression and encourage greater empathy toward disenfranchised communities.
