What should you do if wildfire smoke reaches your community?
Hot, dry conditions are increasing wildfire risks across Wales, and smoke can travel miles and cause eye, nose and throat irritation, coughing, wheezing, breathlessness and chest pain. Residents are advised to prevent fires by avoiding barbecues, fully extinguishing cigarettes and disposing of glass and litter safely. If a wildfire occurs, people should call 999, move to safety, stay indoors with windows and doors closed, turn off air conditioning, limit exposure to smoke and ash, and keep vehicle windows and vents closed while travelling. Those with persistent symptoms should contact their GP or NHS 111.
