Malgorzata Korolko-Zipper is a journalist based in Warsaw, Poland. In 1979 John Paul visited his homeland and gave us a ray of hope. This is when I started working for foreign journalists as a researcher. In 1980 I joined NBC Warsaw as a Newsdesk Editor, shortly promoted to Field Producer. During 14 years with NBC I covered the recent history shaping events in my country: Solidarity birth and triumph, its crackdown by martial law, suffering under military rule, round table debates, fall of the communist regime, Papal trips to Poland, state visits. I interviewed key political figures (Lech Walesa). In the 90's I was sent to NBC Moscow as a Producer. I was inside the besieged Parliament till the last minute and within the direct range of of kalashnikov/apc/tank crossfire. I had the privilege to work for John Cochran, Jim Maceda, Bob Abernethy, Ted Elbert, Stan Bernard. I received special mentions in the "Friday Report" for spots on foreign adoptions of Russian children and Chernobyl legacy, personal thank you note from NBC News President Andy Lack for " great effort and courage in crossing the lines of danger to help share the news with the rest of the world", the 1993 News Emmy Award for the outstanding coverage of a single breaking news story "Fighting in Moscow Streets". In 2005 I was at John Paul II funeral in Rome with Craig M. Whitlock, Washington Post. In 2010 I fixed for Jim Maceda, NBC (Smolensk catastrophe). My motto is: There are no problems, only solutions.

Back To The Gates Of Hell: Survivor Prepares For Return To Auschwitz
Hundreds of former prisoners will gather at Auschwitz on Monday to commemorate the 75th anniversary of its liberation by Soviet troops. Over 1.1 million individuals, predominantly Jews, were killed at Auschwitz, the most notorious Nazi death camp, from 1940 to 1945. Voice of America's Henry Ridgwell spoke with a survivor who is preparing to revisit the site, often referred to as 'the gates of hell'.
