Third Prize – Portrait Series – Beirut: Faces of a Broken City
Marcel van der Steen received third prize in the portrait series category for photographs made in Beirut's hardest-hit neighborhoods after the August 4 port explosion. The blast, involving 2,750 tons of stored ammonium nitrate, killed more than 200 people, injured 6,500 and left an estimated 300,000 homeless. It deepened Lebanon's economic and political crisis.
