Massachusetts voters will choose nominees in a Sept. 1 primary featuring a closely watched Democratic U.S. Senate contest between incumbent Ed Markey and Rep. Seth Moulton; the winner is favored in the general election against Republican John Deaton. Several Democratic House incumbents face primary challengers focused on generational change, while six Democrats compete for Moulton’s open House seat. Gov. Maura Healey is unopposed among Democrats, and Republicans Michael Minogue and Brian Shortsleeve are competing to challenge her. Primary contests also include state legislative races and a closely watched Norfolk County district attorney race with seven Democratic candidates following Michael Morrissey’s retirement.
