Major New Spain Rule Change Announced as Bar Terraces Face Closure
Spain's updated hospitality-sector labor agreement requires businesses to assess risks from extreme heat and other severe weather affecting outdoor staff. Measures may include shade, cooling facilities, adjusted shifts, staff rotation, reduced exposure or temporary suspension of terrace service if protections are insufficient. Closures are not automatic, but employers could face penalties of up to €50,000 for exposing workers to dangerous conditions without adequate safeguards.
