South Shields' Ocean Road Mela celebrates the sights, sounds and tastes of different cultures
South Shields hosted its fifth annual Ocean Road Mela, attracting hundreds to a celebration of the area’s cultural diversity. The event featured international food, music, crafts, market stalls, children’s activities and entertainers. Organized by Bangladeshi community groups, local restaurants, South Tyneside Council and other partners, the festival has expanded from its 2021 focus on South Shields’ Bangladeshi community to include cultures from across the region. Organizers and visitors praised the event’s atmosphere and its role in recognizing the community’s longstanding contribution to Ocean Road.
