Warship earmarked as River Clyde museum threatened with destruction
HMS Ambuscade, a Clyde-built former Royal Navy Type 21 frigate that served in the Falklands War and later rescued tsunami survivors as Pakistan’s PNS Tariq, may be destroyed unless campaigners raise £2m to move it from Karachi to Scotland. Clyde Naval Heritage chief executive David O’Neill wants to turn the vessel into a floating museum near Greenock, with support in principle from Inverclyde and Glasgow councils, but rising insurance and shipping costs linked to conflict around Iran and the Red Sea have nearly doubled the required funding. The Pakistan Navy has ordered the ship to leave Karachi by the end of September and warned it will dispose of the vessel if it is not removed.

Man admits transporting Scottish woman's body in suitcase, Greek police say
Greek police say a 26-year-old man has confessed to transporting the body of Scottish woman Elisabeth-Jane Ross in a suitcase to an abandoned building in Athens. Ross, 38, was reported missing and found in the Kypseli district on 18 July. The suspect was arrested on suspicion of manslaughter, robbery and weapons offences after investigators analysed video footage; police also say he used Ross's bank cards and possessed a replica pistol and knife. Toxicology tests are being expedited to establish the cause of death, while authorities seek information about people Ross reportedly knew in Athens. Scottish officials are supporting her family as the investigation continues.
