Stansted Airport Reports Its Busiest Month in History
London Stansted Airport recorded its busiest month on record in July, handling more than 3.1 million passengers, a 6.3% increase from the same month the previous year. Daily passenger numbers exceeded 100,000 on 18 days, while the rolling annual total reached 30.5 million. Spain, Italy and Turkey were the most popular countries, with Istanbul, Dublin and Majorca among the busiest routes. The airport attributed the increase largely to summer holiday demand and said it is responding to changing preferences for multiple shorter breaks. Emirates has resumed twice-daily Dubai flights, and Stansted is pursuing infrastructure and transport upgrades, including Skylink walkways and an overnight Stansted Express service trial.

Radio Caroline Breached Ofcom Rules After Broadcast Incorrectly Announced the King’s Death
Radio Caroline was found by Ofcom to have breached broadcasting rules after it accidentally aired an announcement claiming that King Charles III had died, followed by the national anthem and approximately 16 minutes of silence. Ofcom ruled that the incident violated requirements for accurate and impartial news and prompt corrections, noting that the apology and clarification came about 30 minutes later. The station attributed the incident to staff playing a stored message out of curiosity, reprimanded the responsible employee, removed the files, and reminded staff of the relevant procedures.

Chelmsford City Racecourse 'set' for racing return
Chelmsford City Racecourse may resume racing after Arena Racing Company, freeholders Moulsham Hall Estates Ltd and the racecourse reached a fresh agreement. Racing stopped in March after the British Horseracing Authority refused a licence for operator Golden Mile Racing Limited, following the administration of previous licence holder Great Leighs Estates Limited. The new arrangement provides an exclusivity period for the parties to negotiate a long-term agreement, while the BHA will consider a new licence application. Three fixtures, including the Good Friday event, were cancelled and an appeal against the earlier refusal failed in June.

A13, A127, and A130 overlapping roadworks criticised by MP
A local MP criticised Essex Highways and Essex County Council for scheduling overlapping roadworks on major south Essex routes, warning the simultaneous closures will cause significant disruption for residents. Rebecca Harris called for an urgent review and rescheduling of works affecting the A13, A127, A130, and several other roads through mid‑August. She acknowledged that gas main replacement work by Cadent is necessary but said overall planning has failed to consider the impact on the 365,000 daily road users. Council officials have been asked to respond.

Essex & Suffolk Water latest on possible hosepipe ban
Essex & Suffolk Water reports that no hosepipe ban is currently in place for south Essex but warns that dry weather and rising demand may lead to restrictions later in the summer. Reservoir levels, particularly at Hanningfield, are low, prompting calls for residents to reduce usage through measures such as shorter showers, careful appliance use, and fixing leaks. The update follows bans already implemented by Anglian Water and Affinity Water elsewhere in Essex due to high demand and prolonged dry conditions, where penalties for non‑essential hosepipe use can reach £1,000.
