Twenty per cent of Clacton voters expected to back Count Binface
A Survation poll commissioned by Mandate Research suggests Nigel Farage is leading the Clacton by-election with 73% support, while satirical candidate Count Binface is unexpectedly second on 20%. In a head-to-head scenario, Farage’s support falls to 69% and Binface’s rises to 31%. Farage is seeking to regain the seat after resigning to trigger the contest, while opponents accuse him of using the election to distract from a Commons standards investigation into his financial interests and a £5 million donation from cryptocurrency investor Christopher Harborne. Mainstream parties have opted not to stand candidates, but 34 people—including independents, satirical candidates and minor-party nominees—are on the ballot.

Manningtree Town Regatta cancels fireworks due to drought
The Manningtree Town Regatta’s 90th-anniversary fireworks display was cancelled because drought conditions and hot, dry weather created safety concerns. The regatta itself continued on the River Stour with sailing races, mud sports and other activities. Organizers thanked Dynamic Fireworks and said they hoped to reschedule the display later in the year. The cancellation came as the Environment Agency declared Essex and other parts of England to be in drought, amid exceptionally low rainfall, falling water supplies and an increased risk of wildfires.
