Anglian Water hints at the end of the Essex hosepipe ban
Anglian Water says Essex’s hosepipe restrictions will remain in place until water resources recover and supplies return to more normal levels, although the company will not extend the ban longer than necessary. The restrictions, introduced on July 11 after extreme heat and worsening drought conditions, affect activities including garden watering, vehicle cleaning, and filling pools. Exemptions apply for health and safety, animal welfare, religious observance, Priority Services Register customers, and certain businesses. The ban is the region’s first since 2012, and Anglian Water says it is focused on protecting local rivers, water resources, and the environment.

Essex and Suffolk Water hosepipe ban the first since 1997
Essex and Suffolk Water has introduced a hosepipe ban, effective August 3, for the first time since a restriction lasting from June 1997 to April 1998. The company cites extremely dry soils, low river flows, depleted reservoirs, four consecutive heatwaves and minimal July rainfall. Daily demand has risen by 29 million litres, while Hanningfield and Abberton reservoirs are at a combined 69% capacity. The ban prohibits non-essential outdoor hosepipe use, although buckets, watering cans and certain exemptions are allowed. The restrictions are intended to protect household water supplies and preserve rivers, groundwater and reservoir storage during continued hot, dry weather.

Rain could be on the way to Essex after weeks of dry weather
Forecasts indicate that Essex may see rain after a prolonged dry spell, with a 50 percent chance of showers on Sunday. Prolonged dryness has led to parched soil, browned grass and low water levels across the county. The Met Office expects unsettled weather to continue into next week, though rainfall amounts remain uncertain. Some areas already have hosepipe restrictions through Anglian Water and Affinity Water, while Essex and Suffolk Water has not yet implemented a ban. Residents planning outdoor activities are advised to monitor updates as conditions may shift.
