A man in his 30s was found dead at a house on Kempster Gardens in Salford after police received reports of a disturbance at about 05:20 BST. Greater Manchester Police arrested another man at the address on suspicion of murder. Detectives said they were not seeking additional suspects and believed the incident was isolated, with no wider threat to the community.

Former Greater Manchester Police officer Jonathan Pickerill has been barred from working in policing after being convicted of drink-driving. He was stopped in Cheshire in November 2025 with 81 micrograms of alcohol per 100 millilitres of breath, more than twice the legal limit, and later received an 18-month driving ban, a fine and related costs. A GMP misconduct hearing ruled that his conduct amounted to gross misconduct and said he would have been dismissed had he not resigned. Chief Constable Sir Stephen Watson said the offence endangered road users and damaged public trust in policing.

A large moorland fire near Dove Stone Reservoir in Greater Manchester has merged with an earlier blaze at Tintwistle Moor, prompting a major incident declaration as firefighters anticipate days of work due to dry conditions and high temperatures. Emergency teams, supported by helicopters, drones and aircraft, continue efforts on steep terrain with limited water access. Around 70 firefighters and multiple units have been deployed. A 20-year-old woman, Shania Care-Slede, has been charged with aggravated arson and dangerous driving and has been remanded in custody ahead of a court appearance in August.
