Anglesey Woman's Holiday Horror Left Her in a Coma for 42 Days After Tick Bite
Victoria Stellas developed tick-borne encephalitis after a holiday on the Greek island of Syros in 2019, resulting in seizures and a 42-day induced coma. The illness caused lasting memory problems, job loss, ongoing seizures and the need to take up to 18 tablets a day. She believes she was bitten at a property where goats were kept and says she was unaware that vaccination was available. Stellas now speaks annually to Bangor University students to raise awareness, while NHS guidance advises travellers to consider privately funded vaccination when visiting countries where the infection poses a risk.

Lawyer clarifies debate on who owns the left side of a garden fence
Fence ownership is not determined by a general rule requiring homeowners to maintain the left-hand boundary. Responsibility is normally set out in the original development plans and indicated by boundary marks or the property’s title deeds. Barrister Daniel J. ShenSmith and solicitor Nadine Stevenson advise homeowners to check these documents, while noting that unclear records can make responsibility difficult to establish. Saga Home Insurance’s Anna Thunstrom recommends discussing related disputes, such as overhanging tree branches and roots, with neighbours and considering council-supported mediation if necessary.
