Local man wins four medals at British Transplant Games
Buckinghamshire resident Nick Barnard has won four medals at this year’s British Transplant Games. Diagnosed with acute myeloid leukaemia at 27, he underwent chemotherapy and received a stem-cell transplant in September 2018 after an anonymous donor was found through the Anthony Nolan register. Since recovering, he has married and competed in three British Transplant Games, won five medals at the European Transplant Games in the Netherlands, and represented Great Britain at the World Transplant Games.

NHS Warns 900 South East Patients Need Organ Transplants
More than 900 people in South East England are waiting for life-saving organ transplants, while 43 patients in the region died while waiting last year. NHS Blood and Transplant is urging people to join the NHS Organ Donor Register as part of a campaign to increase registrations from 29 million to 30 million by the start of 2027. Although deceased organ donations in the region rose from 311 to 338 last year, transplant recipients fell from 574 to 544. National family consent for donation has also declined from 69% in 2020/21 to 57% in 2025/26.
