Cambridge professor Jason Arday found dead amid plagiarism row
University of Cambridge professor Jason Arday, 41, was found unresponsive at his Battersea home on 14 August 2026 and pronounced dead at the scene. The Metropolitan Police said the death was unexpected but not believed to be suspicious, with a report being prepared for the coroner. Arday had recently resigned from Cambridge after media reports alleged plagiarism in his PhD thesis and questioned other claims about his achievements; an investigation by Liverpool John Moores University cleared him of wrongdoing, while Durham and Glasgow universities continued examining his appointments. His family said he had faced sustained abuse and misinformation, and Cambridge Vice-Chancellor Deborah Prentice expressed condolences. Arday had also cancelled events for his forthcoming memoir, Great And Unfortunate Things.
