Chepstow Racecourse is celebrating its centenary after opening in August 1926 on land acquired from the Piercefield Park estate. Despite early financial difficulties and its conversion into an RAF base during the Second World War, the venue became one of the few British courses hosting both flat and jump racing. Its history includes Sir Gordon Richards’ world-record 12 consecutive wins, the Welsh Grand National’s long association with the track, and Dream Alliance’s remarkable 2009 victory after life-saving stem-cell treatment. The racecourse is planning to expand its role with a three-day Welsh Racing Festival while honoring its longstanding staff and sporting legacy.
