Tamworth Road in Long Eaton will operate one-way from 2 August until December while a £10m town-centre redevelopment project widens pavements and carries out related works. Access to the Lawrence Street car park and local businesses will remain available, although the council warns of longer journeys.

High temperatures across the UK are set to intensify later in the week as the third heatwave of the year continues, with parts of England and Wales potentially reaching the mid‑30s Celsius and heatwave thresholds briefly met in Scotland and Northern Ireland. A Derbyshire Police officer, PC Louisa Anderson, was commended for bravery after removing her body armour to squeeze through a narrow gap and Taser a self‑harming man, preventing further injury. She provided first aid until additional help arrived. Anderson has been nominated for a national Police Bravery Award, with senior police leaders praising her courage, quick judgement and compassion.
