Fresh tennis prize money row erupts as doubles players hit out at ATP Tour’s plan to cut tournament sizes
Professional doubles players object to ATP Tour plans to halve tournament draw sizes and cut their prize money share from 20 to 10 percent starting in 2028, arguing the changes would undermine their ability to earn a living. They accuse the ATP of pushing through the overhaul with little transparency and prioritizing singles players. The ATP says it is reassessing doubles to create a more sustainable model and boost early‑round singles earnings. The proposals exclude Grand Slams, where doubles draws remain larger, but come amid broader efforts to address doubles’ lower popularity and commercial appeal.

England's Lionesses Heralded as 'Game Changers' Back Home Despite Loss to Spain in World Cup Final
England's Lionesses were praised as “game changers” despite losing 1-0 to Spain in the Women's World Cup final in Sydney. King Charles III, Prince William and Prime Minister Rishi Sunak congratulated the team, which had already helped raise the profile of women's football after winning the 2022 European Championship and reaching England's first women's World Cup final. Fans said the team's success would further inspire players and expand the sport, while criticism focused on William and Sunak staying home rather than attending the match and Nike's failure to sell a replica Mary Earps goalkeeper jersey. Earps was named the tournament's best goalkeeper after saving a penalty.

Shipwreck from 14th Century Found in Stockholm Canal
Archaeologists discovered a late-14th-century shipwreck buried about 30 feet deep in Stockholm’s Riddarfjärden canal. The vessel was built between 1350 and 1370 and likely sank in the 1390s. Its unusually well-preserved condition may reveal information about medieval shipbuilding and regional trade, while a repaired crack suggests the ship was badly worn before sinking. The National Maritime Museum is seeking county permission to excavate the wreck and will determine whether it can be salvaged or should remain underwater.

Successful test flight for Euro shuttle
The EADS Phoenix, an unmanned prototype of a planned European space shuttle, successfully completed its first test by gliding from 8,000 feet to a GPS-guided landing near Kiruna, Sweden. The next tests will involve higher-altitude drops, as the eventual shuttle must glide from about 80 miles. The program was expected to produce a shuttle between 2015 and 2020, potentially replacing the Ariane 5 rocket and strengthening Europe’s ability to compete with the United States in space travel.
