MP urges National Highways to take on Bromsgrove road scheme
Bromsgrove MP Bradley Thomas has asked Transport Secretary Heidi Alexander to instruct National Highways to take over and complete the delayed Bromsgrove Route Enhancement Programme. The A38 scheme’s completion date has moved from December 2025 or early 2026 to December 2026 and now spring 2027, prompting criticism that Worcestershire County Council lacks the expertise to deliver it efficiently. Thomas argues the delays are harming residents, businesses and the local economy, and has also sought details of penalties for the contractor. Worcestershire County Council rejects the criticism, citing the scheme’s complexity and previously unidentified utility assets, particularly Cadent gas infrastructure, while saying it remains confident the project can be delivered safely.
