Choi Myoung Soo is a veteran journalist, editor, and media executive with more than 30 years of experience covering public policy, international affairs, economic development, culture, tourism, media, and social change in South Korea. He currently serves as Deputy Managing Editor and Head of International News at NEWSIS, one of South Korea’s leading news agencies. He directs three editorial teams comprising more than 20 reporters and editors, overseeing the planning, reporting, editing, and production of international news coverage while coordinating reporting across correspondents, commentators, and multimedia teams on diplomacy, global economic developments, technology, and geopolitical affairs affecting South Korea. From 2016 to 2023, he served as Director-General for Foreign Media at the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism (MCST), acting as the South Korean government’s principal liaison to the foreign press corps. He organized media briefings, policy forums, and foreign media programs on diplomacy, economic policy, culture, tourism, and social issues, while helping promote international understanding of South Korea through press tours to the DMZ, Jeju Island, Gangneung, and Incheon, as well as cultural initiatives featuring traditional Korean music, musical productions, and other performing arts programs. Prior to his government service, Choi spent 24 years at The Korea Economic Daily and Hankyung.com, serving in senior editorial positions including Deputy Chief Editor, International Editor, Culture Editor, and Head of Content Strategy. He holds degrees from Seoul National University and Hanyang University and completed the Executive Program in Culture and Arts Leadership at Korea National University of Arts. Throughout his career, he has combined journalism, editorial leadership, international communications, and cultural diplomacy to help explain Korea and its place in the world to international audiences.
