Special South African police team to investigate killing of anti-migrant leader
South African authorities launched a multidisciplinary police investigation into the shooting of Andile Mvuyelwa Somgxada, a provincial leader of the anti-migrant group March and March. The group claims the killing was retaliation for its campaign urging undocumented migrants to leave the country, amid rising tensions and violence linked to anti-migrant demonstrations. Police warned that no individuals or groups may enforce immigration rules, following arrests in Limpopo for impersonating immigration officers. The government has deported more than 53,000 foreign nationals during its migration campaign, while several African states continue repatriation efforts for their citizens.
