First pictures of parents charged over death of one-year-old son
Adam Johnson and Kylie Smith, both from St Helens, have been charged with causing or allowing the death of their one-year-old son Maero, child neglect and possession of cannabis. Maero died in hospital in August 2023 after suffering ketotic hypoglycaemia and severe malnutrition, according to a Home Office post-mortem examination. The parents are due to appear at Liverpool Magistrates’ Court on August 13, 2026.

Four men in their 20s die in lamppost crash as police put 'no-fly order' in place
Four men aged 23, 23, 24 and 26 died after a black SEAT Cupra left Liverpool Road in Huyton and crashed into a lamppost shortly before 2am. A 27-year-old passenger was taken to hospital in stable condition. Merseyside Police have closed Liverpool Road and East Prescot Road, established a cordon and begun a serious collision investigation. A temporary drone no-fly zone is in place over the scene, while police appeal for witnesses and doorbell or dashcam footage.

Pregnant mum given two years to live after terminal cancer diagnosis
