Adam Johnson and Kylie Smith, both from St Helens, have been charged with causing or allowing the death of their one-year-old son Maero, child neglect and possession of cannabis. Maero died in hospital in August 2023 after suffering ketotic hypoglycaemia and severe malnutrition, according to a Home Office post-mortem examination. The parents are due to appear at Liverpool Magistrates’ Court on August 13, 2026.

Four men aged 23, 23, 24 and 26 died after a black SEAT Cupra left Liverpool Road in Huyton and crashed into a lamppost shortly before 2am.
