York jury decides ex-councillor made antisemitic tweets
A York jury unanimously found that former North Yorkshire councillor and mayor Patricia Marsh distributed written material likely to stir up racial hatred through tweets condemning Jews and Israel’s actions in Gaza. Marsh, 78, was declared mentally and physically unfit to stand trial after developing dementia, so jurors determined only whether she had committed the acts, not whether she was criminally guilty. Judge Sean Morris imposed an absolute discharge, while the Crown Prosecution Service defended continuing the case because of the alleged offence’s seriousness, its impact on witnesses and the wider community, and the need to maintain confidence in the justice system.
