Residents of Mola Dad in northern Pakistan have been displaced as accelerated glacier melt increases the risk of glacial lake outburst floods. NDMA and ICIMOD attribute the heightened danger to rising temperatures, altered weather patterns and reduced snowfall. Hunza, Chitral and other high‑altitude districts face increasing vulnerability due to multiple unstable glacier lakes. Early warning systems supported by UNDP have helped communities evacuate in recent incidents, but experts warn that ongoing monitoring and preparedness remain essential to reduce future loss of life.
