South Gloucestershire Council has announced numerous road closures, traffic restrictions and diversions across the area for telecoms, utility, resurfacing, drainage, cabling, active-travel and infrastructure works. Restrictions range from one-day closures to a five-month closure in Hawkesbury Upton, with access maintained for residents in some locations and alternative routes provided elsewhere.

The Fleece Inn in Hillesley is hosting a cider and sausage festival from Friday, August 21, through Saturday, August 22, with music and entertainment. The pub’s tenants are reducing food service before leaving, with the final food service on August 21; the pub will then open for drinks until closing for the handover to new tenants at the end of August.

Yate Youth Festival brought young people together on August 5 at Yate Shopping Centre for street art, sports, games, arts and crafts, temporary tattoos, hair tinsel, food, drinks and giveaways. Youth services and community organizations showcased support available locally, while organizers praised volunteers, partners, Yate Shopping Centre and Active Yate for helping make the event successful and expressed hopes for another festival in 2027.

Dursley Town Ladies coach Stephanie Hill has been named Gloucestershire FA's Grassroots Coach of the Year – Female Pathway. Hill began coaching after a 2018 cancer diagnosis made playing difficult, later earning a UEFA B qualification and supporting multiple areas of Dursley Town AFC. She also founded the Comets, a pan-disability football group for children aged six to 11, which is scheduled to move its sessions from Wotton-under-Edge to Dursley in September.

Avon Fire and Rescue Service is recruiting full-time firefighters, accepting applications from candidates regardless of where they live. Applications open on August 10 and close on August 16, with a training school planned for spring 2027. Candidates must be at least 18, physically fit, legally entitled to work in the UK and able to complete online assessments and other stages of the selection process. Fully qualified firefighters earn £40,358 plus pension, private healthcare and professional development benefits.

The Armstrong in Thornbury is celebrating more than three months of successful operation, with rising audiences, community engagement and a growing programme of events supported by volunteers. Upcoming attractions include comedy, an ABBA tribute night, jazz, a wine-tasting evening, a screening of Hamnet and a fundraising funk, soul and disco event. The Magnificent AKs men's choir, led by Chris Samuel, will perform at Cossham Hall in September after previously impressing audiences at the Thornbury Arts Festival.
