Plymouth Moor View tops South West for disability benefit claims
Plymouth Moor View has the highest proportion of Personal Independence Payment claimants in South West England, with 13.2% of working-age adults receiving the benefit. Across England and Wales, more than four million people now claim PIP, with psychiatric disorders accounting for 39% of claims. The article explains that PIP is a non-means-tested benefit intended to cover the extra costs of disability, while reporting criticism of its assessment process from the Timms Review. The figures come amid debate over rising welfare spending, proposed reforms and the balance between conditional support, employment opportunities and adequate mental-health assistance.

Phased closures and parking bans in Plympton from September
Phased gas main works by Wales & West Utilities will lead to 24-hour road, parking, loading and pedestrian restrictions on several streets and footpaths in Plympton from 7 September 2026. The programme is currently scheduled to run until 26 February 2027, although the temporary order can remain in force for up to 18 months. Plymouth City Council says diversions and on-street notices will guide residents, while access, bus services, waste collections and deliveries may be affected.

The venues will offer all-day dining, breakfast, vegan and gluten-free choices, children's menus and locally sourced food and drink. Further coffee shops, fast-food outlets, grab-and-go options, premium bars and a concealed speakeasy are expected to be announced.
