East Kalimantan Police Name 16 Suspects in 47 Forest and Land Fire Cases
East Kalimantan Regional Police have named 16 suspects in 47 forest and land fire cases affecting approximately 2,263 hectares. Police Chief Endar Priantoro said investigators will coordinate with the East Kalimantan High Prosecutor’s Office and pursue evidence-based legal action against individuals, corporations, or other parties. The suspected causes so far involve land clearing and accidental fires, while no evidence of corporate involvement has been found. Authorities urged the public to stop using fire to clear land and said any alleged corporate involvement, including in areas around Indonesia’s new capital, must first be established through legal proceedings.
