Sudan’s Al-Burhan Backs Inclusive Dialogue but Pledges to Continue Fighting the RSF
Sudanese army commander and Transitional Sovereignty Council Chairman Abdel Fattah al-Burhan approved guarantees for an inclusive dialogue involving Sudan’s political and civil forces, including temporary immunity and protection for participants. He insisted that the state would not control the participants, agenda, or outcomes, but pledged that the army would continue fighting the Rapid Support Forces until they withdraw from cities, disarm or regroup in designated areas, and are defeated. The Democratic Bloc welcomed the initiative, calling for a Sudanese-led process with regional and international actors limited to facilitation and support.

Sudan’s al-Burhan: We Are Fighting an Existential War
Sudanese army commander Abdel Fattah al-Burhan described the conflict with the Rapid Support Forces as an existential “War of Dignity” and denied that the army was targeting tribes or specific population groups. His comments came as tensions grew with the Sudan Liberation Army faction led by Khamis Abdullah Abakar after Prime Minister Kamil Idris dismissed the faction’s minister of religious affairs, a move the group said violated the 2020 Juba Peace Agreement. The agreement’s power-sharing provisions have partly been implemented, but the integration of armed groups into the army and other security arrangements remain stalled. Fighting also intensified in West Darfur, where the Sudanese army and allied forces said they repelled an RSF attack near El Geneina, while the RSF continued to control most of Darfur.
